It would be a shame if your trip to the Netherlands for an F1 race didn't come without a fine. Check out our tips on how to enjoy a Formula 1 race at the Circuit Zandvoort without extra costs.
Highways 120 km/h
Roads 80 km/h
Cities 50 km/h
The Netherlands is one of the countries with no vignettes and no tolls. In the Netherlands, two tunnels, the Westerscheldetunnel and the Kiltunnel, are tolled.
In the Netherlands, the alcohol tolerance is 0.2‰ for beginners and 0.5‰ for drivers with more than five years of experience. That's about two glasses of wine or beer.
But be careful because if you exceed this benevolent limit, the penalties are severe. The minimum rate is €230, the maximum €410, and above 1.3‰, you risk jail and a fine set by the court.
Police officers in the Netherlands are communicative and friendly, but they can be adamant if you break the rules. And it's not just in traffic.
If you get a ticket for the speed measured by the automatic system, the police will notify the car owner by letter. We recommend paying the fine, usually a maximum of a few tens of euros, unless the speeding was severe. And it's safer than risking unpleasantness with the police the next time you visit the Netherlands.
